This Week in Live Streams: Big Freedia, The 1975, Cinco de Mayo, 504Life and More

This week’s live streams include a Big Freedia twerk party, a Cinco de Mayo festival, and a New Orleans telethon to support healthcare workers. 

Friday, May 1

Big Freedia is hosting a Friday Night Shakedown, a digital bounce dance party, at 8 p.m. CT. Viewers are encouraged to upload their own twerking videos to Instagram with the hashtag #TwerkingitTogether.

Tallest Man on Earth does a livestream show on YouTube on Fridays at 2 p.m. CT.

The 1975 will be hosting an album listening party at 7 p.m. GMT. The platform has yet to be announced.

From May 1-3, the Philadelphia-based virtual music festival Love From Philly will showcase artists including Kurt Vile, Man Mean, Schoolly D, Eric Slick of Dr. Dog, and more. Donations are encouraged. All proceeds will benefit 30amp Circuit’s grants for Philly artists. 

Saturday, May 2

Remote Utopians will stream on the British radio station NTS for 24 hours, beginning at 3 p.m. CT. Featured performances include Tame Impala, Erykah Badu (leading a guided meditation), Yves Tumor, Four Tet, Weyes Blood, Black Midi, and Homeshake.  

Latin music stars Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Luis Fonsi, J Balvin, Diane Guerrero and Ana Brenda Contreras will be performing at Eva Longoria's Cinco de Mayo Live Festival. The virtual concert will stream live on Facebook Live, YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and iHeartLatino’s radio stations on May 5 at 4 p.m. CT. Donations are encouraged.

Sunday, May 3

The Toronto-based theatre company CORPUS presents The Social Distancing Festival, a live Zoom performance titled Sheep in Quarantine. The performance will feature dancers from all around the world. The first show begins at 9 a.m. CT and the second one at noon CT. Sign-up for a ticket (donation-based) here

New Orleans-based jazz trombone player Haruka Kikuchi will live-stream a show from home with her husband, piano player Yoshitaka “Zs” Tsuji at noon CT on Facebook.

Monday, May 4

504Life will broadcast a livestream telethon on May 4 to raise money for essential PPE for 504HealthNet. The telethon will feature a diverse group of community leaders, musicians, and entertainers including Mayor Latoya Cantrell, Matthew McConaughey, Juvenile, Jon Batiste, Peyton, Eli, Cooper and Archie Manning, Baron Davis, Ani DiFranco, Wendell Pierce, Eddie Redmayne, Octavia Spencer, Big Freedia, Rebirth Brass Band, Louis Michot of The Lost Bayou Ramblers, Judith Owen and Trumpet Mafia, plus more. The event will begin at 5:04 p.m. CT. 

Every day from May 4 through May 15, The New York Guitar Festival will broadcast live performances and appearances at 3 p.m. CT on YouTube. The event will begin with Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal on May 4. Donations will benefit MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Wednesday, May 6

Bethany Costentino of Best Coast hosts a quarantine radio show, Bethline, every Wednesday on YouTube starting at 6 p.m. CT. 

H.E.R’s performance and conversation series “Girls with Guitars” continues at 7 p.m. CT on her Instagram.

Thursday, May 7

Radiohead is streaming previous concerts from the archives every Thursday on YouTube at 4 p.m. CT.
