Generationals aren't going to leap from the speakers, nor are they braving new musical worlds. They simply write remarkably catchy songs, the sort that disarm even the snarkiest hipster. A couple of years ago at SXSW, I watched two or three people from magazines and websites that likely consider themselves too cool for rock that is accompanied by the ghost of a John Hughes movie soundtrack, but they worked their way to the front of the crowd at a Generationals set to bliss out to the simple pop pleasures of effortless melodies and gently insistent grooves.
Generationals have cut a new EP, Lucky Numbers, that maintains contact with the band's '80s dance vibe, but transposes it to more electronic instruments. The EP's due out October 2; here's a first listen to the title cut.
Generationals return to New Orleans November 3, when they'll play Tipitina's.
