Ricky B, Roller Girls, and Canadiana

This week in New Orleans nightlife includes folk-rock from Seattle, punk from Vancouver, and a benefit for Jimmy's from right here at home.
Friday: Stooges Brass Band, Ricky B album release party, 10 p.m., Blue Nile: The Stooges are currently one of the hottest brass bands in town, but Ricky B's a bounce pioneer, and he has collected his original tracks on a new vinyl album, B is for Bounce - a cool look into the roots of bounce. Saturday: Big Easy Roller Girls Solid Gold Dance-Off fundraiser feat. Lagniappe Brass Band, Gangbusters, 10 p.m., Howlin' Wolf: The roller derby resurgence leveled off, but that doesn't mean roller derby went away. The Big Easy Roller Girls have been together since September 2006, and their 2013 season just got underway last month. They'll next be home April 20 against the Charlotte Rollergirls. Here's a chance to show some love. Monday: Merchandise, White Lung, Glish, DJ Wesley Stokes, 10 p.m., Siberia: Tampa's Merchandise comes out of punk rock, but the band's sound draws from a broader range of fuzz, with musical impulses that come from post-punk, krautrock, and post-rock. (tickets)
Tuesday: Ivan and Alyosha, Fort Atlantic, 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: Lovely folk-rock from Seattle that puts a premium on the craft behind a well-constructed, memorable song. There is no one in the band named Ivan or Alyosha. (tickets)
Wednesday: Corb Lund and The Hurtin' Albertans, Country Fried, 10 p.m., Siberia: What do we call Americana music made by Canadians? In the case of Corb Lund, "country" describes it just fine. Jimmy Anselmo and Gary Quaintance continue to try to get a liquor license so that Jimmy's Music Club can reopen in the Riverbend. This weekend, new and old bands are showing support for Jimmy's with "Bring Back Jimmy's Music Club Defense Fundraiser," a three-night music series that started Thursday night. Performers include Cyril and Gaynielle Neville, Christian Serpas and Ghost Town, Sexdog, Paul Sanchez, Bryan Stoltz and more on Friday night, and The Local Skank, Jenn Attaway and The Unnaturals, Stephie and The Whitesox, The Call Girls and more on Saturday.
BloodySundaySessions.com will launch Sunday, and the site will celebrate its opening later that night at One Eyed Jacks. The site will present videos of musicians performing stripped-down versions of their songs while riding through the French Quarter in mule-drawn carriages, and some of these videos will be screened at the free opening night party. King James and The Special Men and Colin Lake participated in Bloody Sunday Sessions video shoots, and they'll perform at the party as well. At this point, four of their videos are available on YouTube - Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Treme Brass Band, New Orleans Bingo! Show, and Fishbone.
