The Milk Run looks ahead to the next week of music in and around New Orleans, this week ranging as far afield as Gulf Shores.

[Updated] Jazz Fest and the birth of Clara Louise Rawls forced The Milk Run to take a hiatus, but this week it returns to look ahead to the next seven days of music in and around the New Orleans area. This week, it takes us as far afield as Gulf Shores.

Friday: Partners N Crime, Cheeky Blakk and the Big Easy Bounce Band, Black Kold Medina, 10 p.m., Tipitina's: A few factors played a role in the resurgence of bounce: the post-Katrina preservation spirit, the emergence of Big Freedia, Sissy Nobby and Katey Red's EDM-centric sound, and the Big Easy Bounce Band, who gave the music a live band presentation for those who are still uneasy with turntable and computer-based music. Sunday: Amy Schumer, 7 p.m., House of Blues: Comedian Amy Schumer's made being sweetly crass her calling card, and has done so with enough success to get her own Comedy Central show. (tickets)

Monday: Ghostface Killah w/ Adrian Younge's Venice Dawn, John Doe, Capo, Joie 13, 9 p.m., House of Blues: The cult of Wu Tang cannot die. This tour is in honor of Twelve Reasons to Die, the new album and comic book starting Ghostface Killah conceived by Younge and Vince Dawn bass player C.E. Garcia. Tuesday: The Music Tapes, 8 p.m., The Howlin' Wolf: My Spilt Milk and WTUL present this special show by Elephant 6 Collective utility player Julian Koster and his band, The Music Tapes. The band's carnival sound will find an appropriate home as a tent will erected inside the Wolf for a more intimate, appropriately surreal experience. Wednesday: Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave., Westbank Mike, 5 p.m., Lafayette Square: This year's Wednesday in the Square series of free shows concludes with one of the few New Orleans artists big enough to close one of the main stages at Jazz Fest.

Thursday: Elektro feat. Savant, High Top Kicks, Kthulu Prime, 10 p.m., The Republic: Norwegian electronic music composer Aleksander Vinter comes to New Orleans under his dubstep DJ monicker, Savant. (tickets) Also on Thursday: Marcel Black, Lyrics da Lyricist, 10 p.m., Hi-Ho Lounge

Other Events
The Bayou Boogaloo moves up a few weeks this year for its weekend-long festival on the banks of Bayou St. John in Mid-City. The free festival starts Friday night with DJ Jubilee, Rebirth Brass Band, and Alvin Youngblood Hart among the performers, and it continues Saturday and Sunday with music on three stages and such performers as Coyotes, The Scorseses, Bas Clas, Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas, Pine Leaf Boys, Hot 8 Brass Band, and The Local Skank.

For those up for a road trip, The Hangout Music Festival takes place this weekend on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, and a healthier Kings of Leon top a lineup that also includes The Shins, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Roots, Bassnectar, Jim James, Porter Robinson, Dirty Projectors and more. Three-day ticket packages are sold out, but single day tickets are still available.
