This will be one of their few club dates this summer. Monday: Heavenly Beat, Nicholas Nicholas, 10 p.m., Hi-Ho Lounge: John Peña folds acoustic instruments (particularly Spanish guitar) into his musically upbeat, lyrically down electropop. (tickets)
Tuesday: Jack White, Kelley Stoltz, 8 p.m., Saenger Theatre: About a month ago, Jack White surprised everybody with the announcement of a new album, Lazaretto, a new tour, and he has dropped three tracks since to whet people's appetites. The album won't be out until after the New Orleans date, but what we've heard so far sounds like a natural follow-up to Blunderbuss (tickets) Also on Tuesday: Vintage Trouble, 8 p.m., House of Blues (tickets); Animals as Leaders, Conquering Dystopia, Chon, 8 p.m., Tipitina’s (tickets)
Wednesday: Orgone, 10 p.m., Maison: The Los Angeles-based funk band can be lush when it chooses to be, or hard-edged and Meter-esque, as previous visits to New Orleans have illustrated. (tickets)
Thursday: The Courtneys, 10 p.m., Circle Bar: This Vancouver-based three-piece all-woman band play garage punk with an appealing sense of fun.
Other Stuff
A few months ago, Colin Jost replaced Seth Meyers as the co-anchor on Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update." Friday night, he'll perform as a stand-up comic at the Civic Theatre.
